Method 4: Get rid of the SoftwareDistribution Folder

To get rid of the “Windows 10 couldn’t be installed” error, you can try deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder. For this, you have to follow the below steps:

Step 1: Go to Windows search menu and type down CMD. Then right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Next, you will need to run the below commands one by one: 

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

Step 3: Now head over to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and delete all the files & folders inside it by pressing the Ctrl+A keys, then right-click and select Delete.

Step4: Once deleted, restart your computer. Now run Windows Update and see if the error has been fixed.

Method 5: Install the updates manually

Step1: Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History.

Step2: Look for the KB number of the recent update.

Step3: Next, head over to the https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx website. Then use the search bar to enter the KB number and press enter.

Step 4: Click on the Download button and a popup window will appear. In the popup window, click on the .msu file link to download it. 

Step 5: Finally, install the .msu file, and it should resolve the “we couldn’t install some updates because the pc was turned off” issue.
